Year 1 Enrolments - Starting School For the First Time

Burnham School —

Starting school is an exciting event for your child. They have heard many stories about the school from family and friends and now it is time for them to become part of this new community. Attending formal schooling will involve changes for your child as he or she establishes new friendships, learns new routines and takes the first steps towards independence. We feel it is very important that starting school is a positive experience for your child because quality learning takes place when the child feels secure and happy.

When you enrol your child you will be asked to fill in the following forms:

  1. The online Enrolment Form
  2. The school is required to see a copy of the child’s birth certificate to verify the date of birth, and also the immunisation certificate.

We welcome parents/caregivers into the classroom for visits before starting school. Please phone the school to arrange a time. Pre-entry visits are usually arranged on a day that suits from 8:55 am to 11:30 am.

We work closely with our local Preschools and Kindergartens to ensure that every child has the best transition to school possible. Before children start school, we ask all children to spend three mornings transitioning from 8.55 to 11.30 am to get used to school. Some children require more time and some require less, our staff will advise you. A parent or caregiver must remain at school during each visit.
