Burnham Learner Profile; using the Key Competencies.

Sarah Stratton —

We are developing the New Zealand Key Competencies within our local curriculum to increase achievement, and develop the skills, attitudes and values for our students to become lifelong learners.

Key Competencies are the capabilities people have, and need to develop, to live and learn today and in the future. The New Zealand Curriculum identifies five key competencies:

  • Thinking Relating to others
  • Using language, symbols, and texts
  • Managing self
  • Participating and contributing.

The poster attached gives examples of how each of the Key Competencies can relate to students learning and development. As we progress through the year, we will be asking whānau to participate and contribute ideas towards this profile. Together, we will develop a future focused personalised Burnham Learner Profile which is responsive to the priorities for our Burnham tamariki.
