Junior trip to see the Orchestra and visit the Museum
On Friday 9th September, Ruru and Kereru had the opportunity to listen to a Christchurch Symphony Orchestra hosted by Suzy Cato. Then we went to see the dinosaurs!
When the opportunity came up to attend the CSO performance, we could not pass it up! It is not often that we get to see a full orchestra playing in the Christchurch Town Hall. We had good seats, sitting to the far right upstairs overlooking the orchestra so we could see all the instruments. Suzy Cato introduced each piece and told us a bit about it. We heard the Hall of the Mountain King, where Peer Gynt is trying to sneak past the trolls, music from Frozen and Pirates of the Carribean where we were encouraged to join in, and the William Tell Overture.
We then ate lunch near the fountain in the Botanic Gardens and played under the hanging branches of the trees there. After that, it was time to visit the Dinosaur exhibit in the Canterbury Museum. The exhibits were very lifelike and made some scary noises, however the students enjoyed finding out information about how the dinosaurs lived and what they may have looked like. A great day!
