Tuahiwi Student Leadership Programme

Kate Kennedy-Terrell —

One of our values at kura is Rangatiratanga. We want to embody this by creating an ākonga leadership team. This term, we are working towards establishing this rōpū through a leadership programme at our kura. Read on to support your tamaiti in applying!

This is a programme developed specifically to support of Tau 8 ākonga.  We have so many amazing rangatira in our kura, and we want to acknowledge these tamariki by giving them opportunity to excel in this area.

What could being a school leader look like? Leading hui, facilitating tuakana teina mahi, showing visitors around our kura, leading by example for others, meeting with kaiako and our Tumuaki, sharing ideas about what needs work at kura, being a voice for all other ākonga, leading events at kura and representing our kura at events in the community.

We will be advertising and talking to the seniors next week about this opportunity and there will be an application process, where tamariki can submit a CV and participate in an interview process.

You can help at home by encouraging your tamaiti to apply, teach them how they might answer questions, give them ideas about being a great leader or listening to them and giving them encouragement to take safe risks.

Please see Whaea Kate if you would like more information.
