Distance Learning at Tuahiwi School - Classroom Mahi

Mel Taite-Pitama —

The live stream I did this morning described what our home learning will look like from a classroom perspective. All of the information is summarised in this article.

There will be two streams of learning for our tamariki at Tuahiwi kura, schoolwide and classroom based mahi. This article talks about the classroom mahi approach.

Classroom Mahi:

Every kaiako has created a class facebook page. Ruru and Pipiwharauroa already had their facebook pages up and running before lockdown. The remaining class facebook pages will be launched Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning. You will be sent an invite if you are on facebook but if you do not received an invite please email your child's kaiako directly.

Our kaiako will be utilising the ease of facebook and email during the distance learning time for their classroom mahi. You may also receive texts or phone calls. Please check your emails regularly and turn your facebook notifications on so you can be notified when there are learning activities uploaded.

Every kaiako has developed a 'Pic n Mix' type rubric that has learning on it for our tamariki. Learning on this pic n mix rubric does not require a device, it can be completed without access to the internet. I have attached an example of a 'Pic n Mix' so you can see what you might expect. The one attached is very draft.

Your tamaiti can work their way through the 'Pic n Mix' at their own pace completing some or all. Again, this is an optional approach and meant as learning to support what they are already doing at home.

Sometimes our kaiako might go live on their classroom facebook pages or send a zoom invite to you so our tamariki can connect with one another. We know they all miss their friends.

We would love you to be sharing the mahi that your tamati has been working on. This can be done in a few different ways.

1. You can upload the mahi in a photo to the class fb page.

2. You can email photos or the mahi directly to the kaiako

3. Tamariki can share their work with the kaiako if they are using google docs.

Our kaiako will be waiting to be able to give feedback to the tamariki about their mahi.

Our kaiako will be available as much as possible during 9am - 12.30pm every day but please remember they all have their own whānau living with them and they will be navigating the household at the same time.

We are here to support you all in this new way of working, we want it to be successful for you and us. Please contact our kaiako if you are unsure about something, need help or simply just want to check in.
