Te Kura o Tuahiwi is committed to the revitalisation and retention of te reo Māori.

MĀORI MEDIUM CLASSES: WHITIREIA
Our tamariki are learning in contexts within Te Ao Māori. TMOA http://www.tmoa.tki.org.nz/Te-Marautanga-o-Aotearoa
L1 - Curriculum is taught in Maori for more than 20 and up to 24.75 hours per week (81% - 99% of total time)
Literacy and Mathematics are taught in te reo Māori. Student achievement is in relation to the levels in the curriculum document Te Mārautanga o Aotearoa.
Te reo Pākehā (English) will be taught as a learning area in Years 6 - 8 classes, however not reported against.
ENGLISH MEDIUM CLASSES: PUAKA
Classes follow the New Zealand Curriculum document. NZC
Puaka are level 2 with kaiako required to speak 51-80%.
Literacy and Numeracy are delivered in English. Student achievement is reported according to the levels in curriculum document, The New Zealand Curriculum.
Te reo Māori is taught as a learning area, with a focus on oracy.
