Tumuaki Update

Mel Taite-Pitama —

There is a great vibe at kura this term and its only getting more electric with all of the trips out and about, the year 8's preparing for their secondary journey and new whānau joining us as the school year comes to an end in 4 weeks.

Last  week we welcomed Whaea Kate into our kura and this week into Room 6 as the kaiako for the remainder of the year. Although Room 6 has had multiple changes they have survived and are working beautifully with Kate. How lucky are we to have such an awesome kaiako and leader join our team. We are really excited about what we can achieve with Kate alongside us.

Today we have our carpenters in Rehia and by next week Room 5 will be moving in to their new home until the renovations are completed in Rooms 3,4 and 5. We will hope to add new aspects to Rehia and other classes as we can but everything costs money so sometimes we are unable to get things when we want to but more when we can afford it.  It is super exciting though and its looking great in there.

Our kaiako and wider kaimahi team are working on our Big Day Out on Friday 13th December. We have a cool day organised and we hope that lots of you are able to join us. We are hoping to go to Spencer Park on this day and await confirmation from the council about our booking.

Our Puawaitanga celebration also has a team of kaimahi working on it. This is the night that we celebrate our tamariki, their learning and make our farewells to those leaving us. Each class presents a song and some awards are presented. This is on Thursday 12th at the marae, starting at 6pm.

Last week we have some of our tamariki competing in the Athletic zones. We were very proud of their efforts and their behaviour. Whaea Kate said our tamariki were outstanding!

Te Rūma Kāhu went to Koukourarata last week for two nights. I visited them on Thursday and they were having such a wonderful time together swimming, jumping off the wharf and kayaking. They also visited Okains Bay kura and Museum. What a treat!

This weekend ( Friday 15th November)  our senior kapahaka are performing at Te Mataiwi at TKKM o te Whakapumau. Please see the pānui about this if you are keen to come along and watch.

I could keep writing about all of the things happening at kura but it would take you all day to read it! This pānui has some really important messages so please read through them as this is the platform we use to share what is happening.

Enjoy the long weekend whānau. I hope the sun shines for us.
