Tumuaki Update - Term 3

Mel Taite-Pitama —

We are feeling a lot of pride at Te Kura o Tuahiwi with our tamariki representing us in different places with respect. Many people tell me that when our tamariki are offsite they uphold our values and are amazing advocates for our kura. Tau kē tamariki mā.

The past two weeks have been very busy with our Year 1-6 tamariki swimming each day. Whaea Annie told me yesterday that she has seen a significant improvement from the tamariki in Te Rūma Pīwaka from the first few days of lessons to now. It really us worthwhile us spending the two weeks on Aquatics to help our tamariki become more confident swimmers.

I have been working closely with the convenor for the New Zealand Principal's Conference to be held at Te Pae in Ōtautahi mid September. I will be attending the conference as a participant but mainly as a member of the Canterbury team who are a major part of organising a massive event. There are about 800 Principals attending from all over Aotearoa!

Our kaiako attended some Kāhui Ako Professional Learning Development at three different Kaiapoi Kura last week. Some attended a workshop on lego, maths and a whanaungatanga quiz while others chose to meet some of the Early Childhood kaiako to discuss transition to Primary school. We will be having the next Welcome to School Expo on October 20th between 5.30pm and 7.30pm for whānau to come and browse the stalls. All Kāhui Ako kura will be represented including Te Kura o Tuahiwi!

The photo on the article this time is of some of our team enjoying each others company at a staff hui. They were getting ready for a literacy competition!

Thank you so very much to the many people from our whānau who have put their hands up to be on our Board of Trustees. We have been overwhelmed by the support you have all shown. It is likely that our Presiding Member, Rebecca Stevenson will be in touch with those of you that have handed in a nomination form next week. The Board of Trustees can be such rewarding mahi and its a neat way to learn more about how things operate here. I certainly appreciate the mahi that our board members do to help out and lean on the expertise and support they give. We were lucky to be able to spend an evening together with Board members and staff at a local restaurant in Loburn a few weeks a go and it really was a lovely night.

We are half way through the term now and our tamariki are practicing their brackets for the kapahaka show. Thank you to the whānau who are helping at home with practices! I'm sure you all love hearing your tamariki singing and doing the haka!

As always please come in and see our team if you need to. We are here to support.
