Kāhu hōpuni ki Pariroa/ Gore Bay

Crisanna Nel —

The Tau 7 and 8 headed off to Pariroa for a couple of days in the sun, relaxing and recharging for the last week of the year.

The weather was amazing for Kāhu during their hōpuni in Gore Bay- sunny and hot, letting everyone make the most of the amazing accommodation.

Lots of eke ngaru, body boarding and kauhoe were on the cards at the beach and in the awa with many ākonga getting to satnd on their surfboards with Matua Te Aho looking on proudly.

Hīkoi around the cliffs provided opportunities to find boulders with fossils in them, pāua shells, gullies to explore and a seal!

Kēmu back at the house were full of healthy competition except for spotlight where there could be only one winner- Whaea Crisanna!

A trip to the Hurunui saw a bit of 4WD, boarding down the awa and playing in the warmer shallows- no luck on the rods for Whaea Nush and Matua Dave.

Everyone took turns making the kai and cleaning up and even though we all really wanted to get up and watch the sunrise, only a couple made it watching through their curtains.

The highlight of the trip was a surprise visit to Hanmer Pools where Whaea Bex joined with the Tau 6 to have an end of year celebration together with hydroslides, pizza and chips- namunamuā!

Ka mihi aroha atu ki a Matua Te Aho, Matua Ihaia and Matua Dave for their tautoko at camp and in the waka getting everyone where they needed to be. Ngā mihi hoki ki a Whaea Nush for her tautoko in the water and supervision of the kai prep. Tino waimarie mātou!
