Kaiako learn too!

Crisanna Nel —

Our kaiako are life long learners, using pūkenga they learned when they were ākonga kura tuatahi/ primary school students. What have they been learning lately?

Whaea Crisanna,Whaea Āwhina and Whaea Kate went to Pōneke for a Māori Leadership workshop. They took key learnings about connecting to their leadership from manu. tīpuna and their core uara.

Atua given, tīpuna driven was a whakataukī used by one of the facilitators Lynette Bradnam and Miriama Harmon from Ako Pānuku. Ako Pānuku us an invaluable resource for educational  PD provider for kaiako Māori and kaiako within Māori medium settings. And best of all they make the PLD accessible by being free and giving tautoko to the kaiako attending through flights and accommodation! Pāia!

We also had our Teacher Only Day where Beth Dixon came in to share rautaki/ strategies for strengthening reo ā-waha within the akomanga. Kaiako learned how to take an authentic context (in our case it was tiakarete!) and make it into a deep learning experience, expanding puna kupu/ vocabulary and building on rerenga/ sentences.

Kaiako also took the opportunity to get dressed up in their best pou colours and take on each other with a quiz!
