Being present and engaged is fundamental to student achievement. When your tamariki are not at kura for long periods of time or have a pattern of being away one day a week every week this is a significant interruption to their learning.

This week the team and I have spoken about the high number of absences we are experiencing this year. Kura, along with whānau, are legally responsible for making sure tamariki are attending school.

One of the significant research findings for student achievement is that tamariki need to be at kura to be academically achieving at their best possible level. We have noticed that there has unusually high absence from kura and want to remind all of our whānau that we need your tamariki here as often as possible, on time and ready to learn.

If your child is away we expect a call, text or email to let us know. If a pattern arises in regards to absenteeism we have an obligation to let The Ministry of Education know but we would prefer to help before it gets to this point.

If you are having trouble with getting your tamaiti to kura please let us know as we want to help however we can.
