Mō te wāhanga tuatahi we are looking at wai. Ko te pātai matua // leading question mā mātou- Why Wai?

Ia te Tūrei we will be having mahitahi across our four Whitireia akomanga with the kaupapa being exploring, investigating, wondering, working together and being creative.

Curriculum areas that we are incorporating into our mahitahi include Pūtaiao, Pāngarau, Matatini, Ngā Toi, Ngā Reo me te Hangarau. This week we had our first session in our rōpū whānau and what awesome activities there were for our tamariki!

Whaea Carla's rōpū were using origami to create waka pepa // paper boats that would race each other. Tamariki had to create their own waka and check that it would mānu // float and then they had to race them across the tēpu.

Tamariki with Whaea Andrea had kōrero around how wai māori helps our tinana to stay hydrated and to keep healthy by flushing out the things our tinana doesnt need. There were also heaps of fun relays using wai!

Matua Kiwhakiwha was teaching tamariki about kōwhaiwhai patterns and the tikanga behind them. There was a lot of arotahi as koru and pūhoro were being drawn, discussed, coloured and compared. He ringatoi rātou!

Tamariki with Whaea Awhina had to waihanga // create a lego ipu that would hold wai or a lego dam that would block wai. Problem solving, kōrero, rebuilding and strengthening structures and working together were all skills needed in this activity.

Mīharo kē! What a lucky bunch of tamariki to get to experience learning like this!
