Ngā mihi o te wā Matariki ki a koutou katoa! This week we celebrate Matariki and next year we will celebrate in an even bigger way with a Public Holiday. Our Board were thinking about how we can celebrate Matariki next year so watch this space!

This week we have had our Ara Ako (Learning Path) Progression Hui with whānau. We have had such a great turnout of whānau who have come to learn more about how their tamaiti is progressing.

Every whānau are invited in on two afternoons and an evening to meet with their child (ren)'s kaiako about how they are progressing in the learning programme.

The purpose of the hui is to share where tamariki are at for

  • Pānui / Reading

  • Tuhituhi / Writing

  • Kōrero / Speaking

  • Pāngarau / Mathematics

Kaiako may compare what the ākonga could do at the start of the year, and what they can do now, and focus on their progress. You will most likely be shown how we track the results on HERO, the student management APP that we encourage all of our whānau to be using to track progress.

Kaiako are also able to experience having a kōrero with whānau that is honest and reflective of how things are going in the akomanga in a time that is dedicated to this.

If whānau would like to have further time to kōrero you are welcome to make a time with the kaiako to facilitate this. You may also not have been able to attend at the times available so feel free to connect at a different time or day.

As you will already know, our kaiako work so hard to teach and learn and I feel very lucky with the team that I have. They all work tirelessly to give our tamariki awesome experiences both in and out of the akomanga.

This is the last week of kura before the holidays is upon us again, gosh where does time go? Before we know it we will be at the end of the year!

What are you going to do over the holidays? Have you planned to spend time with your whānau? A trip to the snow or a movie night at home? Perhaps teach your tamariki how to play last card or cook soup? Its always good to have a few things planned to look forward to.

Mathias and I were heading to Brisbane to see our son Sheldon after a long time of not being able to get there however COVID has other ideas and the government has put the international flights from Australia on pause. While I'm sad that I won't get to see our son but I have decided not to take the risk of being locked down in Brizzy but I will have plenty of study to keep me busy.

Have an amazing time whatever you decide to do. Stay safe and warm.
