Kathryn Smith —

This week we've continued with our big spring clean and some kaiako have moved furniture into their classrooms for 2025, the rest will do this early next week. Read on for more detail about our end of year organisation and for highlights of week.

He mihi mahana ki a koutou katoa

There is just 2 and a half weeks to go before the end of the school year. Next week kaiako will create class groups for 2025 and the following week we have 3 Transition Times during which ākonga will go to their 2025 classroom to get to know their teachers for next year.

The complication with this is that we have yet to appoint 2 new teachers for next year so no one can meet those teachers yet.

End of year reports will be available in the last week of school, which combined with the Learning Posts provided throughout the year will let you know how well your tamaiti has progressed in their learning.

Tent City Takes Over the Field

Room 12 built Tent City on the field and moved in for a day this week.

Relaxing in Tent City

They enjoyed being outside and playing a raft of "old school" games. Such fun!

Carry an orange between your knees? Easy!

Interzone Athletics

Well done to Sasha for representing Wilford School at the Interzone Athletics on Tuesday.

Whānau Picnic

Come along to our end of year picnic and enjoy a casual family focused evening at kura. You'll be able to catch up with other parents and perhaps even organise some holiday play dates. Bring your own kai, but leave room for a free sizzled sausage.

Thursday 12 December

5.30-7.00pm

The library will be open to get out some pukapuka for summer holiday reading.

Pack the Bus

Thank you for supporting Pack the Bus this week. The Wilford community gave generously to support the City Mission who'll give these goodies to families in need this Christmas.

End of Year, End of an Era

After 14 years at the front desk, Donna's hanging up the phone and putting away the her safety vest. She has decided it's time for a change. Donna turns her hand to all manner of things across the school so we'll really miss her.

We'll be holding a Farewell Assembly next week to say good-bye to both Brian Lenihan and Donna Seddon. You are invited to join us on Paraire 13 Tīhema at 9.15 to say thank you and farewell to both of these wonderful people.

Kaiwhakangao - our fundraising heros

Our kura has been blessed to have had many hands helping with fundraising. Last year's gala, this year's Quiz Night, various grant applications and our 'a-thons' have raised enough money for us to refurbish the courts, install a bike track (in January), and create a master plan to stage the ongoing development of our 'playscape'. These things will give our tamariki the education environment that will allow them to thrive.

Kaiwhakangao refers to a group of people growing a community and investing in it's success. It can also refer to a process of sprouting or unfurling. It's an apt name for our fundraisers as they work to support the sustainability of the school through various fundraising activities. It's not just about money, however, as Kaiwhakangao also nurture the school community by connecting people together and providing it's members with opportunities to grow their own skills as well as enriching their own social circle.

As the year draws to a close we want to acknowledge the contribution made by Kelly Sloper, Bex Wilson, Krissy Taylor, Ali Pegg, and Sonia Smith. As these people are stepping back from their involvement in Kaiwhakangao we are seeking others who will put up their hand to get involved.

Early next year we'll be hosting a couple of get togethers for anyone and everyone who can make a small contribution to the work of Kaiwhakangao. Dates and times will go into our community calendar so keep your eye out.

Our current fundraisers are:

  1. Moana 2 movie, Thursday 5 Dec.

You can still purchase tickets and these can be picked up and paid for at the office and you can also pay online.

  2. wine sales, see details for both below.
