Our Curriculum
Wilford School - September 3, 2019
At Te Kura o Wilford we offer dual medium learning through our English and Māori medium programmes. These are underpinned by The New Zealand Curriculum and Te Marautanga o Aotearoa (the national curriculum for Māori medium education).
Currently The New Zealand Curriculum is being refreshed, and Te Marautanga o Aotearoa redesigned. The new mathematics, English, te reo Māori and Pāngarau learning areas in each curriculum will be implemented in 2025, with the remaining learning areas implemented in 2027.
English Medium
Our English medium syndicates Ngā Kākano (Yr 0-3), Ngā Tupuranga (Yr 4-6) and Ngā Rangatahi (Yr 7-8) are focused on the age-appropriate development of each child – from transitioning to school at five years old, to fostering independence and preparing for secondary school. Guided by The New Zealand Curriculum, our education programme is delivered primarily in English, while also providing opportunities for both ākonga and kaimahi to learn basic te reo and tikanga Māori.
Māori Medium
Ngā Puāwai, our Māori medium syndicate, focuses on supporting ākonga to walk capably and confidently in both te ao Māori (the Māori world) and te ao hurihuri (the changing world). Ākonga are understood within the context of their whānau, hapū and iwi, and strong relationships with parents and caregivers is considered crucial to their learning success. Our education programme is delivered primarily in te reo Māori and is guided by Te Marautanga o Aotearoa.
