Statement of Delivery
At Te Kura o Wilford, we are committed to providing a fun and supportive Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE) programme that aligns with the New Zealand Curriculum and our school’s vision, "Ako Tahi Tatou – Learning Together as One." Our aim is to empower our tamariki with the knowledge, skills, and values they need to understand relationships and make smart choices about their health and well-being.
What Will Be Taught
The RSE programme covers a wide range of important topics, including:
Understanding personal values, beliefs, and feelings related to friendships, respect, and identity.
Learning about the physical and emotional changes that occur as they grow.
Developing skills to engage in safe, respectful friendships, including understanding consent, communication, and setting healthy boundaries.
Recognising and celebrating the diversity of gender, identity, and relationships.
Focusing on mental health, emotional well-being, and personal safety.
These topics are taught in a way that values and respects the diverse backgrounds and needs of our tamariki.
How It Will Be Taught
Our RSE programme is delivered using various engaging methods to actively involve tamariki. These include structured lessons, group discussions, role-playing activities, and interactive learning. Our approach encourages tamariki to think critically, reflect on their values, and practice respectful communication.
The programme is culturally sensitive and inclusive, ensuring it resonates with Māori, Pacific, and other cultural perspectives. We use teaching strategies that align with the New Zealand Curriculum’s key competencies, such as communication, problem-solving, and self-management. This helps tamariki understand and apply what they learn in their own lives.

Link to our School’s Vision
At Te Kura o Wilford, our vision, "Ako Tahi Tatou – Learning Together as One," guides everything we do. We believe that all tamariki will experience success when whānau and school work together. The RSE programme supports this vision by fostering a collaborative environment where tamariki, whānau, and educators come together to build self-awareness, confidence, and a strong sense of personal identity.
By teaching tamariki how to respect themselves and others, we encourage them to develop healthy friendships, emotional resilience, and the skills they need to achieve their aspirations. Ultimately, our RSE programme is designed to help tamariki feel empowered and prepared to lead fulfilling lives and make meaningful contributions to their communities.
