Days of the Week | Kupu o te ra
There are various words in Māori for the days of the week.
If you search Te Aka Māori Dictionary you'll find that you've got choices when it comes to names for the days of the week.
We are choosing to use and teach ākonga the "loan words" for the days of the week as this is what we've been advised by mana whenua to do. These are as followings;
Mane | Monday; Tūrei | Tuesday: Wenerei | Wednesday; Tāite | Thursday: Paraire | Friday; Hātarei or Rāhoroi| Saturday; Rātapu | Sunday
You'll also hear the following te reo Māori kupu for the days of the week;
Rāhina | Monday; Rātū | Tuesday: Rāapa | Wednesday; Rāpare | Thursday: Rāmere | Friday; Rāhoroi| Saturday; Rātapu | Sunday
Yes! Rāhoroi and Rātapu are used in both sets.
