U15 Rugby Team 2024

Pip Deans —

Our U14 Rugby Team finishes in the top 4 at the Rural Livestock U15 Tournament at Prebbleton

The hard work and effort paid of this week for our U15 Boys Rugby Team, finishing 4th in Div 1 at the Rural Livestock Tournament at Prebbleton RFC.

Drawn in Pool A with Burnside, Verdon and Taieri.

The team pulled together and dug deep to dispatch all the teams in their Pool.

Burnside - 56 to 19

Verdon - 28 to 26

Taieri - 19 to 12

By the end of the first day, our injury count wasn't too bad, until into the second half of the last game of the day against Verdon, Harry went into a tackle and came out with a fractured wrist. Off to A&E, in a cast and that was tournament over.

Finishing top of their Pool - the rematch between us and Ashburton loomed with Ashburton having the advantage of beating us earlier this term.

This was to be their final of the tournament - it was do or die! Our lads left everthing on the park. Ashburtons discipline let them down and we continued to break their line and run around them. Eventually holding out for a draw of 10 all. We went through to the Semis on points from previous matches. This was an amazing game, everyone got a run around, but we sustained a few injuries.

Wednesday had us playing Central Southland, a very polished team that also went through pool play unbeaten. Our lads were feeling the muscle tightness from the Ashburton game, with only two reserves left, the team were trailling 10 - 5 at halftime, eventually going down 27 - 5. Central Southland went on to win the tournament 17 - 7 playing again Lincoln.

A truly amazing week of Rugby, our team was very disciplined and everyone worked together to achieve these great results.

Thanks to everyone involved, coaches, Lucas and Jade, - job well done!. Parents and whanau, staff and friends, thank you for your support throughout the season, we look forward to 2025 in Oamaru.

Well done to Sonny Bill McAndrew and Calum Johnstone for be named in the 22 player RLL Tournament Team Squad for 2024, a great honor and well deserved.

Lastly, congratulations to our team for coming runner up for the Best All Round Performing Team in Div 1, just missing out by a point or two from Dunstan. An incredibly proud moment for us and the team who represented Darfield High School with pride throughout week.
