Money flows at the Year 10 Trade Fair

Andrew Lee —

Almost $900 worth of sales, resulting in over $500 worth of profit, the Year 10 Commerce Trade Fair was a big hit!

Students taking Year 10 Commerce have the opportunity each semester to form groups, select a product and bring it to market. With 99% of the customers being DHS students, food is the go-to choice for these groups.

This semester Mr Lee's class had 8 groups participate, where there were Snow Cones, Cake Pops, Caramel Slice, Milkshakes, Smores, Ice-Cream Sandwiches, Brownies & even Cotton Candy on offer.

Total Revenue for the class sits at $855.00 and the total profit for the class sits at $530.00, a class-high record in Mr Lee's tenure at Darfield High School. This equates to the average student leaving with $30 cash in hand!

The winning group consisting of Cerys McGuinniety, Tia Miller, Liberty Lochore and Brylee Holland sold Snow Cones (on a cold winters day). They were met with a massive crowd wanting their colorful, flavoured ice, putting their sole snow cone machine and their four group members under a lot of stress and pressure. This group was the only group to exceed $200 in sales and each member left the event with $52 cash in hand after taxes. A very good effort from these girls. Mr Lee was worried that snow cones wouldn't sell on such a cold day (Good thing he's not wrong often).

Runners up were Andrew Maultsaid, Kyan Vercoe, James Manning & Ronan Robinson who sold Milkshakes, recording a group profit $115 after tax. Imogen Smith, Jack Molloy & Jack Lowe take the Bronze Medal where their Ice-Cream Sandwiches earned them $92 profit after tax.

The second Trade Fair for the year will be with Mr Lee's second semester Commerce class, and will be set near the end of Term 3.
