Response to Uniform Feedback
We would like to take a moment to thank those people who have taken the time to share their feedback via email regarding the uniform updates for 2025. We have carefully read and considered all responses, and where appropriate, have passed on specific concerns.
Below is a summary of common questions and feedback, along with further context and our responses:
The uniform is too cold.
We understand that the uniform may feel cold, especially on frosty mornings. However, when students wear all available uniform items (shirt, merino, softshell jacket, pants or tights as needed) and layer with thermals underneath, they should be warm enough when walking between classes. All classrooms are heated, and wet-weather spaces are available for students to use during break times on those cold/wet days.
Can students wear a non-regulation jacket while waiting for the bus or walking/biking to school?
Yes, absolutely. Students may wear a plain black or navy puffer jacket to and from school. These must be removed upon arrival and before entering school buildings.
The softshell jacket is not waterproof.
The softshell jacket is water-resistant, not fully waterproof. It’s designed to repel light rain when moving between classes but may soak through if worn for extended periods in the rain (e.g. outside playing basketball during interval). During wet weather, students are encouraged to use the designated indoor spaces during breaks.
The merino is too itchy.
Some students may find the merino slightly irritating, while others don’t notice it at all. It is designed to be soft and comfortable. We are looking into other options if there are students who do suffer from diagnosed allergies to the woollen jersey.
The uniform is expensive.
We understand that there is always an outlay of initial costs with new uniform purchases. Affordability was a key theme during the consultation process. The uniform was intentionally designed to be practical and cost-effective. Compared to traditional options like blazers and kilts, our uniform is potentially half the price and remains in line with other schools in our region. We are always willing to help if there are any issues of hardship. Please feel free to contact us if that is the case.
