From the tumuaki | principal 2023 Term 4 Week 10

This is the last one for 2023! Also a quick read. Have a great break everyone

Tēnei te mihi ki a koutou | wishes to you all

Our junior prizegivings this week were lovely - warm, happy celebrations of all the talent that our students bring and opportunities our staff create (albeit with some technical challenges we will hopefully address for next year). My thanks to all the parents and whānau who came along in support and to our organising team.

The school, and your email inbox, will be quieter for a few weeks now! Our office closes today and opens again on 22 January 2024.

Congratulations to Mr Shawn Gough, appointed as Deputy Principal at Kaikōura High School and Ms Jayne Mallinder who will also start next year at KHS with Guidance and Health. Both have given great service to DHS over many years but this is a good move for them personally and professionally and we wish them the very best. There has been some talk about the number of staff changes but this is quite normal: we now have six teachers going to other schools but we also have some going on leave for a range of reasons and others coming back from leave; with over 50 teachers, and a lot of other schools advertising, movement is normal.

I’ve had a great year at DHS and will go on holiday next week excited about 2024.

Merry Christmas everyone and have a happy holiday doing things you love.

Mauri ora ki a koutou (good mental/spiritual health to all)

Andy England
