Raranga Trip to Manaaki Whenua

The Year 9 and 10 Raranga classes took a field trip to Manaaki Whenua | Landcare Research where the National Collection of Harakeke is looked after.

They learnt a little bit about creating and setting up a pā harakeke | collection of harakeke plants (which is something we are going to be working on next term as a resource for the school and the wider weaving community.

The students were also lucky enough to have a go at extracting muka | white fibre inside the leaf.

A big thank you to Katarina Tawiri for sharing her knowledge and Mr England for driving one of the vans.
