Tawera Rural College

Bring a Tractor to School Day

Tuesday was the final day of school for our year 11-13 students and for some their last day of school at Darfield High School.  To mark the occasion a few of the Rural College Boys decided they wanted by doing something special.

Rural College Students, Logan, Liam and Lucas (the 3 L-amigos) organised with local farmer and ex DHS student Murray Rowlands to bring his collection of International Tractors to school, and have them on display for day.  Having the tractors parked up at school, seeing the students taking an interest in them was definitely a talking point. It was a great initiative from the boys and one that we hope to continue into the years to come.

This has also generated National interest as yesterday Andy England spoke with Jamie Mackay from The Country programme about Tawera Rural College, followed up by an article in on the The Country Facebook Page. Look out for an article in the Farmers Weekly.

Murray and his partner Jennie have been working with the Students this year and building good relationships through practical days and work experience programmes. We are grateful to them and the other farmers in the community for their support of our Rural College Programme.
