A woof welcome to our newest Staff member! Sammie

As schools look for new and innovative ways to support students with different needs, the use of support dogs is becoming more popular. After trialling Sammie last year, the Policies Committee has approved a learning support dog programme for DHS.

Sammie is a friendly and gentle dog who enjoys spending time at school and engaging with the students. There are many ways that she can support students including by providing comfort, support and a sense of security to students who may struggle with anxiety, ADHD, or other learning challenges. Her calming presence can help students feel more relaxed and focused in the classroom, making learning and participating easier.

Having a support dog like Sammie in schools can help create a more positive and inclusive environment where students feel more confident, calm, and engaged in the learning process. Sammie is not just there to support individual students but to bring joy and happiness to the entire school community. By allowing students to interact with a friendly, and calm dog, Sammie can help build positive relationships and create a more welcoming atmosphere for everyone.
