Jade Pengelly visits DHS - Vet nurse, lecturer and author.

Ex-DHS student Jade Pengelly, whose book "Tales of a Vet Nurse" is number 5 in Aotearoa's best-seller list, held a career presentation and a writing workshop for keen student writers. Students from all year groups attended these sessions.

You could have heard a pin drop when 23 of our keen writers, head-down and focused, crafted their individual pieces of writing.  This was a great session with several writing activities and the chance to learn how to make it in the publishing world.  Jade was impressed with the standard of our students' writing and encouraged them, saying "It is never to soon to publish a book".

In her career presentation, "Working with Animals", Jade highlighted relevant information on what is involved and what it takes to work with animals (and people!) in this industry.  There are many different opportunities and skills. Resilience and fitness is important and Jade encouraged students to keep their school subject choices broad and include english, maths and science.

Jade's book is available in our library - we have several copies so you can reserve it now:)
