From the tumuaki | principal 2024 Term 1 Week 5

Lots of classes getting out for trips and some thoughts about costs. But, first, Swimming Sports...

Kia ora koutou (hello to you all)

Our swimmers could be forgiven for thinking it was winter sports this week! But a great day was had with parent support and some strong swimming.

Outdoor education has been getting ‘out there doing it’ and we have high student interest in this subject. Senior Geography and History classes are on field trips next week to Aoraki and Arrowtown respectively, and are also experiencing big interest from students.

Camps in general are challenging nowadays with high costs and I’m aware that, while all families are feeling the pinch of the cost of living, some families are really struggling to meet school costs (especially when we also consider uniform and Chromebooks). For us, it’s a balance we always consider and seek support for wherever we can. Everyone wants a quality education, which trips really enhance, and unfortunately we aren’t actually funded to provide all of that. So where people can pay donations we really appreciate it and if anyone can’t afford it please do let us know so we can find another way of paying to ensure that students don’t miss out.

Our fortnightly note system has been out of action while it’s being reviewed and we hope to have it back running soon.

Mauri ora,

Andy England
