Darfield High School Duathlon and Triathlon Champs 2023

For the past three years our Duathlon and Triathlon Champs have been run in conjunction with the Lake Crichton Series run by the Selwyn Sports Trust.

The 2023 Lake Crichton Series is a three race series utilising the world class, man-made Lake Crichton. Located on Frasers Road, 25 minutes south of Hornby and 2 kilometres south of Dunsandel, Lake Crichton is extremely safe. The lake is no deeper than 1.7m, naturally heated to mid 20 degrees and only about 50 metres wide. It is a most tranquil setting for a triathlon!

The Friday evening series allows for all competitors, young & old, experienced & first timers, to finish their working week with exercise. You can enter individually or in a team.

There are two race distances in both the triathlon and duathlon. The triathlon begins with a lake swimming (in water start), followed by a road bike and finished off with an off-road run. The duathlon follows the same bike and run course as the triathlon but has a short run before you get on your bikes.

Short Course Tri/Du – 150m swim/1.5km run, 8km road bike, 2.25km off-road run

Long Course Tri/Du – 400m swim/1.5km run, 16km road bike, 4.2km off-road run

The January event is run as a warm up event, the February event this year unfortunately clashed with the Coast to Coast.  Check out our Championship results in Week 5 report.

Coast to Coast

For the first time we were lucky to get a ballot spot for the Coast to Coast.  Our team of Isla McPherson, Oscar Stevenson and Jared McDonald made up the 2 day 3 person team.   Oscar Lochore got to compete in the Mountain Run section.

From one coast to the other in 13 hours, 21 minutes and 34 seconds to finish in 3rd place in the school mixed grade - just a mere 50 seconds between 2 and 3rd from Waimea College!19th

Overall in the 3 person 2 day grade out of 102 teams that participated - not bad in the top 20!Thank you to your families who supported the throughout the last few months, I am sure it would have been trying at times, but your support is what drives our guys to do your best.

Our school sports moto is 'Our goal is to help our rangatahi to achieve theirs' Well you can tick that one off!

Great work by Oscar Lochore to finish 2nd in the Mountain Run for the School Boys Grade and 21st overall.

We have some super talented Multisport students among us!

Heads up for 2024 - we will be entering 2 teams!!!! Yay we are so excited!
