Doppelmayr Scholarship for Excellence in Snowsports

The scholarship enables senior Snowsports students to undertake the NZSIA level 1 course to become qualified ski instructors.

Early last week, we had the privilege of completing the NZSIA level one ski instructor course from 2-6 October at Mount Hutt with 14 others. We were hit straight away with a day of indoor lessons on Monday, with bad weather conditions resulting in the closing of the mountain. The following days were filled with sun and clear skies, along with some killer goggle tan lines to show for it. The days were packed with the morning hours just lapping the chairlift to get as much feedback on our skiing, and learning the mechanics and format of how to teach beginners to ski. The course was intense and definitely a challenge. It was a very stressful, but enjoyable course. A very tightly knit friendship formed among the group and we're sure to have made friends that will last a lifetime.

We wouldn’t have been able to complete this course without the generous support of Doppelmayr. Their sponsorship enables us to take this opportunity. Thanks also go to our amazing dads for taking the time out of their days to take us up the mountain, and to Porters Alpine Resort for training us during the Snowsports programme run by DHS each season. A final huge thank you to Mr Maude and Miss Pinteric who run the school Snowsports programme.

This is an amazing opportunity and the hope is that we will in turn have an opportunity to give back assisting beginner skiers on our programme next season.
