William Pike Challenge - Update

The William Pike Challenge wraps up later this term and it is exciting to see that we have a few Year 7 students who have already completed the Passion Project and Community Service parts of the Challenge and several who are well on their way. We have 4 Outdoor Activities planned this term so that will tick off that part of the Challenge for those who take part, the first of these is Top Team which is coming up this Friday.

I was able to pop in and see a couple of Year 7 classes to see what they got up to over the holidays,

Faye Williams

Faye Williams went to Auckland and spent 1 1/2 hours picking up rubbish around the Silver Park mall while she was waiting. This is amazing to see a young person using her initiative to clean up other people’s areas. Faye also planted approximately 60 trees during the holidays while helping a friend's dad regrow his property. She also completed her Passion Project which was creating a family album for her family to look back on and remember the memories that come with each photo.

Oscar Le Compte

Oscar Le Compte spent the middle Saturday of his holidays helping the Te Ara Kakariki trust to plant native trees to regrow New Zealand's native bush. Oscar spent about 7 hours of his day planting approximately 50 trees. This event was held in Springston and resulted in the planting of around 1,500 native trees in total.

Hamish James

Hamish James also planted native trees in 2 areas one being Springfield, Hamish planted around 10 trees with the help of his Dad. This was to help the Te Ara Kakariki Trust to get more native trees in New Zealand for native birds. Hamish has also gotten into streaming for his Passion Project of gaming and wants to share how he plays his games. He streams with his friends and they play Minecraft and Fallguys together. Hamish really enjoys streaming and sharing his gaming success with his followers.

Mia Clark

Mia Clark has been helping a 6-year-old girl who is struggling with Maths. Mia started this in Term 2 and spends every Tuesday after school helping her out. Mia has a love and passion for Maths and wanted to share this with others. Mia has also been learning how to play the Ukulele and learnt the chorus to Truth Hunt during the holidays. Mia is keen to keep playing and learn the whole song.
