Early last Sunday morning, the Year 12 Geography class met at school to begin our three day trip to Mt Cook. Unfortunately the weather was against us, so some quick thinking from the teachers allowed us to complete nearly all the activities we were planning on doing by rearranging the trip schedule.

On Sunday having made it to Glentanner, we went straight out and did the Red Tarns walk which had been planned for Monday. We collected our data on vegetation changes, which will be used in our upcoming assessment.

Monday, the weather was shocking, we had a talk from Matt at the Dept of Conservation about Keas, then on to the Mt Cook Visitor Centre for a scavenger hunt. The weather hadn’t improved much, however, we braved the wet conditions in the afternoon to get the last of our data about river meanders for our assessment and then headed back to our lodgings for hot showers, hot drinks and card games.

On Tuesday, we left Glentanner Lodge early to head for Tekapo springs. We spent a couple of hours in the hot pools and playing mini golf before continuing the journey back to Darfield.Thanks on behalf of all the students to Mrs McNabb and Mr Cate for organising this trip. Jack Guy
