Adventure 180

The week got off to an early morning 6am start for a group of hardy Year 11 students who finally got to complete there Adventure 180 rafting expedition.

Last year we were fortunate to send a group of, then year 10 students on a Programme organised and run by Adventure 180. These students and a two teachers spent a week tramping and bike from one side of the coast to the other. Unfortunately the weather put a stop to most of the plans and they could not complete the rafting leg. So on Monday we finally got is ticked off. It was a awesome day, with a chilly start in foggy conditions, the river conditions were perfect. They spend 7.5 hours rafting from Mt White Bridge to Toby Hill Farm. Another great adventure and lifetime memory. Thanks to Marcus and the team at Adventure 180.

Basketball - Thompson Trophy

Our Senior A Basketball Team started their Thompson Trophy Campaign on Tuesday night against Rangiora New Life School at the Selwyn Sports Centre.

It was a great first game, though the team lost 59 to 90, they played well and had good ball, they just couldn't get it to fall through the hoop.

Thank you to Dean Serra for taking on the coaching role this year and we wish the team for their next match on Tuesday 16th against Cathedral College, at Cathedral College, 7.30 tip off.

Winter Sports

Winter sports kicks off next week - this year we have

Mondays - Hockey - Intermediate Girls Team. Basketball Year 8 Mixed and a Year 7 Boys playing at Selwyn Sports Centre.

Tuesdays - Thompson Trophy Basketball

Wednesdays - Netball, Senior A playing SuperNet Reserve at Avonside, Senior B, Year 9/10 and Year 9 teams playing at Hagley. Football, Senior A combined with Ellesmere, Intermediate Boys. Rugby - 1st XV and U15 matches

Fridays - Basketball, a Senior Girls Teams, 2 Intermediate Girls Teams, a Year 12 Boys teams, 2 Year 11 Boys Teams and a year 9/10 Boy Team

Kai Pai Pie Fundraiser

As you can see from the number of teams above we have a lot of students playing a lot of sports, with about 250 playing just in these teams. All of this comes at a cost and we are looking to support families through raising funds that everyone can take part in.

We will receive an amazing 30% return on sales, so just by selling $90 of Pies to friends, family and work mates, that's $30 to go into the fund. Funds will be spent on the activities that your child participates in. This is a great initiative and one that you can all get behind.

There will be spot prizes weekly and overall prizes for the most pies sold, individual, class and year level.

Dear Families, May/June – Online Frozen Pies and Savouries Fundraiser

Darfield High School Sports students are selling delicious frozen Kai Pai Pies and Savouries to help fund a range of activities and resources for Term 2 and 3. Funds raised will go towards uniforms, warm up gear, travel expenses and equipment costs for our senior students and our Year 7s will be fundraising towards the costs associated with their William Pike Challenge and Year 8 End of Year Trip.

All funds raised will go towards supporting our students and their families with the costs associated with participation in the above activities.

How will this fundraiser work?

We have partnered with New Zealand online fundraising company Go Raise It. Go Raise It specialise in working with New Zealand schools and clubs to maximise their fundraising efforts. We have chosen to run a Kai Pai Pies and Savouries Fundraiser. There is a great range of flavours to choose from, fill your freezer with these yummy award-winning pies and savouries just in time for the colder months. By running our product sales campaign online, it makes it super easy for everyone - no more door knocking, your family can fundraise from home - no need to worry about handling all that cash and bringing it in. You simply sign upon the fundraising website, share the link with family and friends and they can arrange to collect their products from you at the end of the fundraiser. Ideas for promoting/selling:

● Share your child’s fundraising page around your workplace/colleagues and tell them a date when you will bring their purchases for collection

● For family & friends who don’t live locally – offer to give their purchase to a local charity you support

What happens at the end of the fundraiser?

At the end of the fundraising campaign (last day for sales is Sunday 28 May) all orders will be compiled, and products will be collected and distributed at the school hall on Thursday 15 June, 3-4.30pm

Before pickup day, each fundraiser will be sent a report (to their registered email) showing all the supporters who have purchased from their fundraising web page and what items/quantities they have purchased.

Indy Paterson - awarded the Selwyn Athletics Most Promising Female Athlete

Lulu Maley - awards the Selwyn Athletics Age Group Cross Country Championship and the Selwyn Athletics Age Group Overall Club Champion - this season Lulu won the High Jump, 800m and 1500m titles

Summer Gainsford and Marlie McCaughan headed to Nelson in the weekend to compete in the Southern Area Artistic Roller Skating Championships - both coming away with Gold and Silver Medals in their chosen disciplines.

ISports and Westpac Trust Sports Balls

We were fortunate to win a box full of Sports Ball. This came about from an online competition where our community nominated us for the sports balls. Along with other schools we had enough votes to win.

We are very grateful to ISports and Westpac, these balls have been distributed amongst our Year 7 and 8 classes and I am sure be put to good use.

Player Agreements

This year we have bought back Player Agreements - these agreements cover all students who play sport, whether it individual or team. The agreement outlines the school expectations and requirements for each of our students when they represent DHS. It also covers Injury Management and Player Behaviour. There is also a section on Caregivers/Supporters and Spectators. Each student and their caregiver is required to sign this prior to their first game. If you have not received one, please check with your child (it could be in the bottom of their bag). Some may not have them yet as we work through getting them out to everyone, but please contact me and I will get one to you.
