Selwyn Secondary School Students’ Tertiary Scholarships

Selwyn District Council awards scholarships annually to Year 12 or 13 students at Darfield High School, Ellesmere College, Lincoln High School and Rolleston College.

The number of scholarships and the amount of scholarships granted in any one year is determined by Selwyn District Council.

The scholarship funding must be used for further education at a university, polytechnic or accredited state or private institution on a full-time course of study which benefits the wider community.

The planned education/training must commence in the calendar year following awarding of the scholarship in order to apply.

The scholarship is only available for payment towards course fees and costs associated with the purchase of books/equipment required for the study/training.

Applications are encouraged from students that have achieved outstanding success in academic, sports, cultural, arts, social responsibility or other areas, either at school or in their community. Those who have overcome barriers or hardships to achieve are also encouraged to apply.

Selwyn District Council will receive and review all Scholarship applications and prepare a shortlist from each ward. The relevant Ward Councillor/s will communicate with each school regarding the applications. At the discretion of the Ward Councillor/s, students may be asked to have an interview with the relevant Ward Councillor/s. This will be communicated via email directly with the students.

The successful applicants are announced and awarded at the end of year school prize giving awards with Council representation.

Secondary students applying must live in Selwyn, attend school in Selwyn and be planning to undertake full-time post-secondary school education/training at a recognised NZ university, polytechnic or training institution.
