Ka Pai Year 9

The Year 9s had a fantastic morning out in the Darfield community building connections and giving back to our community by completing community service. This gave our students the opportunity to demonstrate our school values of Kaitiakitanga (looking after our future), Kotahitanga (uniting our community), Manaakitanga (respect and care for others) and Rangatiratanga (becoming your best you).

This project complemented the learning we have been doing in whānau time around our school values. Students highlighted that building stronger community connections was something they were keen to improve. Below our the projects the students were involved in

  • Annabels 3 year old Kindy

  • Darfield Pre-school and nursery

  • Darfield Playcentre

  • Darfield Toy Library

  • Darfield Fire Station

  • Torlesse Buses

  • Cleaning fairy doors in McHughs Forest

  • Building BMX track parts

  • Weeding Community Garden

  • Cleaning up Skate Park/Domain

  • Darfield Primary School

  • Painting tyres for the sensory garden at school

  • Bee Project, care for bees and bee friendly planting at school

  • Sausage Sizzle/Baking for fundraising for charity at school

  • Pick up rubbish weed gardens at school

A big shout out to all the staff that were involved with facilitating the groups, special thanks to the Year 9 Whānau Teachers for all the behind scenes planning, especially Victoria Rudman and Heidi Clark. Also we are very grateful for all the people in the community who gave up their time to guide and help our students.

We are also extremely proud of how well our Year 9s represented our school, they really showcased our values and were great ambassadors. They loved the experience and we look forward to rolling out a similar initiative next year.
