This year Darfield High is beginning our 3rd year in our PB4L Journey.

PB4L (Positive Behaviour for Learning) is a framework for shaping our school culture to celebrate the positives and create consistency in how we approach behaviour that does not meet our expectations. This is a framework that we have spent the past two years shaping to fit our school and our needs.

This year our focus is on implementing the systems we have been developing. This includes consistent approaches to behaviour in the classroom and clearly defined expectations as set out in our behaviour matrix. Our school values of Manaakitanga, Kotahitanga, Kaitiakitanga and Rangatiratanga are at the heart of this.

To promote our values, we are introducing a new system of acknowledging students when they show expected behaviour, using the My Mahi platform. Students can receive points in each of our school values. 20 points in any value will gain an entry into the Dean’s Prize Box. 50 points in a single value will result in an award for that value, and completing an award in each value will get students a Grand Slam.

Throughout the year we will be targeting specific behaviours and teaching students how to meet our expectations. Our first focus is on engagement in class. In the coming days, students will have lessons on what engagement looks like and how they can make the most of the learning opportunities provided. Your support in following up with your student on what they have been learning in class, and how they maximised their learning each day is greatly appreciated.
