EVolocity Launch - Year 13 Mechanics trip

Electric vehicles are fast. They are fun. They are the future. Through mentorship and a hands-on learning philosophy, EVolocity are on a mission to break down barriers and inspire young Kiwis into sustainable engineering while fast forwarding New Zealand’s clean tech future.

With a bunch of inspiration, and free creative rein my Year 13 students attended the Launch Day. It was very informative! With the help of myself and some mentors, the students plan, engineer and manufacture electric karts or bikes – all with sustainability and race day in mind.

Regional Final events will take place for Canterbury students on 2 November. The vehicles take part in dynamic tests such as drag races, gymkhana (agility and maneuvering), endurance and efficiency competitions and static tests. These tests will take into consideration presentations on design, how the Kart was built, project management, budgeting and a technical report. All which give credits for NCEA.

As we do not have a lot of funds, We will be seeking sponsorship for either services we could utilise or scrap materials and tyres we could possibly use for our Kart.

For race day we will need overalls which we hope to have screen printed with the team name on them. In return for sponsorship we will advertise your name on our Kart, and hold a sponsor's afternoon where we will be able to take the kart for a test drive and have a sausage sizzle.  Please contact me if you think you can help.
