Nextgen Dairy Farmer Program Taster Day For Year 11 and 12 Students

The Nextgen Dairy Farmer Program is a pilot project beginning in Canterbury at the end of school year 2024. This is a joint training project between Dairy Training Ltd and DairyNZ. Designed to provide full training, wrap around support and fast-track school leavers into fulfilling, full time farm assistant positions.

Experienced and vetted dairy farmers, who are committed to growing future farmers will guarantee the student full time employment on the successful completion of the six month training programme. The student will develop key work ready skills and attitudes, learn to milk cows - produce a food product, and many on farm practical skills as part of the Nextgen Dairy farmer program. This is an earn as you learn, on the job training program.


The first step to gaining a place in the Nextgen Dairy Farmer program is for classes or individual students to attend one of our two hands-on taster days where real dairy farmers and industry representatives will give you the opportunity to experience what being a dairy farmer is really like.
