13 Geography Coastal Trip

Last Friday morning, the two year 13 Geography classes assembled at the bus bay ready for our highly anticipated beach trip. We settled in for the drive to Taylors mistake. However, things took a turn when we were confronted with the steep and spiraling road leading into the beach. This road was probably not designed with buses in mind and we braced ourselves as our bus climbed up the hill. Our perilous journey was interrupted by a stalemate in the form of a car coming up from the opposite site. Tensions rose as we tried to get past this car. Thanks to our bus driver expertly maneuvering the bus, we managed to scrape past!

With tragedy narrowly avoided, we got out at Taylors mistake and set out in our groups to collect data for our assessment. Some of us collected data on Beach profiles with Mrs McNabb; while others sacrificed their clothes to measure data on Wave action with Mr Cate in the swash zone. After swapping activities, it was a race to New Brighton Beach as raindrops decided to make an appearance.

At New Brighton Beach everyone braved the now torrential rain and cold conditions to finish collecting the data. We repeated our process from Taylor’s mistake. The conditions made it challenging but we were determined. We trekked through the the larger shrub covered sand dunes to measure slope aspect. Upon completion our respective groups sought refugee in the bus feeling pleased that we had managed to collect our data despite some barriers.

Overall the trip was helpful for us to complete our assignment; it also provided us with amusing memories to reflect back on.

A huge thank you to Mrs McNabb and Mr Cate for organising the trip; Mrs Basu for taking the time to help out, as well as Peter our bus driver with his expertise in navigating our bus.
