Equine Studies at DHS

“From horses, we may learn not only about the horse itself but also about animals in general, indeed about ourselves and about life as a whole.” ― George Gaylord Simpson

Working with horses builds resilience, develops a super work ethic, teaches you how to get the most out of others, makes you a life-long learner, gives you confidence and makes you a better communicator. You become more patient, braver, more humble, more able to control your emotions and more driven.

If you are horsey in any way, this is the course for you. Next year we are offering an Equine Course with a difference. It is a Gateway course but will be taught over 4 lessons a week, combining both theory (in class) and practical with a double lesson after lunch enabling us to have guest specialists visiting, plus an opportunity to ride at nearby equestrian facilities on those afternoons. It is a broad course offering something for everyone and the only prerequisite is the love of the horse. It is open to Year 11, 12 and 13 for Level 2 standards with Level 3 standards being offered the following year. If you love horses and always thought it’d be great to be able to continue learning about horses at school, then this is the course for you. Check out the Course Selection document under Rural Studies for more information, or email Miss Voss directly with any questions that you may have.
