5-4-3-2-1 ... Dual Enrolment is GO!

Fifty-seven dual enrolled students started their 32 week courses with six secondary-tertiary programme providers across Canterbury on Thursday and Friday this week.

Being 'dual enrolled' means that students elect to study for one or two days per week for the year at an institute of technology, private training establishment or industry training provider, in addition to NCEA studies at school for the remainder of the week. Dual enrolled programmes are free to all secondary school students, including the transport required to get students to their courses return each day. This represents an incredible investment by the Ministry of Education in our students and their futures and equally, a massive saving to family/whanau of up to $15,000 per student per year. Starting tertiary trade training while students are still at school makes a lot of sense.

Darfield High School's dual enrolled students are studying at ARA Institute of Canterbury's City and Woolston campuses, Avon City Training Services, National Trade Academy, Southern Institute of Technology's Hornby campus, Vision College and Tawera Rural College Agriculture Academy, in trade courses of 20 to 50+ credits at NCEA Level 2 or 3 in:

  • Agriculture
  • Animal Care
  • Automotive Engineering
