Last night, we joined other Secondary Schools from across Canterbury and the West Coast for the annual Zonta Sports Awards.

These awards are in their 31st year and celebrate Sporting Success across multiple categories, from individual or team contribution to administration to outstanding achievements for young women and young sportsmen in their chosen field.

We were inspired to nominate a very talented young sports woman for a new Category - Most Innovative school sport or physical activity. In July, Lexie Sinclair-Dockerill came up with an idea to start a Multi Sport Squad for Darfield High School. Through her efforts and with her own multisport experience, she saw an opportunity to encourage others who may be interested to give multisport a go. This has proved very successful and we are grateful to Lexie for her foresight and initiative.

We are honored to have been awarded 1st Prize for this Category which was to provide opportunities within school to engage more students in sport and activities and to celebrate innovation and formal and informal opportunities with our Multisport Programme. Well done Lexie for the effort you have put into creating and supporting the squad and passing on your own experiences and skill to others selflessly. Congratulations on winning the award on behalf of DHS.
