DHS Students Shooting Success

On Sunday 2 October the 2022 TSNZ Inter-Secondary Schools Shooting match was held. This year it was held across 5 venues across the country, Palmerston North, Wellington, Blenheim, Rangiora and Oamaru.There were 27 teams from 19 Schools entered - 81 shooters competing in the 5 venues.DHS had 2 teams entered and they went to Rangiora range to compete. Teams were:Team 1: Piper Benbow, Ryan Booth, Liam BarnhillTeam 2: Blake Woolley, Seth Wright, Rylan YoungmanEach person had 3x 20 shot cards which are combined for the team. There was also individual awards for top 3 shooters as well.After the teams matches are shot, the top 10 individuals with 2 emergencies are placed to compete in the Island teams and they shoot 2 more cards. Then after the Island match, thetop ten overall are put into the NZ team and they shoot another 2 cards.


Both Ryan and Piper made it in to the South Island team (which won against the NorthIsland) and then also on to the NZ team, which will compete against Great Britain as a postal.This year the Plate Match was bought back, and that match is for those that didn’t qualify in the Island teams and Rylan was in the winning team Tui.It was a great day with some very good scores. The end results were extremely close between the top 3 school teams there was only 1 point behind each team!

The 2022 TSNZ Challenge Match.

Team 1: Piper Benbow, Ryan Booth, Liam Barnhill. Team 2: Blake Woolley, Seth Wright, Rylan Youngman. Team 3: Blake Tamahana, Felix Jennings, Zak Kershaw. This competition was to be shot in August, but with Covid about a few schools couldn’t finish in time, so was extended to the end of September for results to be sent into TSNZ. Each individual had 2 x 20 shot cards and shot them at their own home range, then results sent to TSNZ.There were 19 Mixed Teams, 15 Boys Teams, 10 Girls Teams & 19 Rest Teams entered overall. – 74 Boys and 55 Girls. This competition was also scored as a team and individual awards.
