Kapahaka Group at Rapaki Marae

Rochelle Tainui —

"Our Senior Kapahaka Group were lucky enough to travel by bus yesterday to Rapaki Marae which is located on the beautiful Banks Peninsula. We were welcomed onto the marae with a powhiri and after meeting with tangata whenua we were able to share some kai together. It was time to then put in some hard mahi, as we were there to practise for the upcoming 'Tuahiwi Kā Matakura o Ruataniwha 2023 - North Canterbury Kapahaka Celebration' being held next Thursday in Rangiora. What a great place to come together to practise for our upcoming performance. When we had our lunch break we took the opportunity to go for a hīkoi down to the beach, which was great on such a sunny winter's day. A big thank you to Whāea Tania and Matua Willie for all that you do for our group and to Miss Gunn and Whāea Jenny for organising the trip, Julie for coming to help support us and our whānau who also came to tautoko this event. We are really looking forward to next week and we hope to see many of you there!
