School Donations
Following your input around school donations, a decision was made by the Board of Trustees at their November meeting. The Board of Trustees has agreed to trial accepting the funding of $150 per student for 2020 from the Government. Please note that student roll on the 1st July 2019 is what the grant is based on. At 1 July 2019 we had 330 students on our roll so we will receive $49,500 in funding for next year. This funding will be used to pay for class trips and events such as: swimming at the Kaiapoi Aquatic Centre, Garden to Table for year 3/4, any musical groups or performances, Life Education etc. In addition to this, some of the funding, around $16,500, will be used to provide additional learning support through teacher aide time in classrooms. Please note that contributions for camp and year 7/8 technology will still be sought from families. We cannot afford to offer these opportunities without your contribution.

2019 Accounts
We have in excess of $20,000 outstanding on our 2019 school accounts. If you have an amount outstanding, can you please settle this at the school office as soon as possible as this money has been paid by our school for student events and activities undertaken throughout the year. As a reminder another term 4 statement will be emailed again next week to all families with an outstanding balance. Please note: Anyone who is in credit with their account at the end of this year can choose to put this credit towards future costs (e.g. camp or technology), donate the money to the school or receive the money back as a refund. We will contact all families with a credit balance early in 2020 to discuss these options.

School Uniform – updated policy
We really appreciate the contributions and input from parents as we have reviewed the uniform policy over recent weeks. Our overall aim with the policy is to keep things simple and affordable while promoting pride in the uniform and our school. A copy of the updated policy is available via School Docs where all our policies are held (https://kaiapoiborough.schooldocs.co.nz/index.htm?toc.htm?11582.htm) and is also attached to the bottom of this newsletter.

Playground changes
Sometime next week the colourful playground will be fenced off and dismantled so that it can be refurbished ahead of being repositioned over the Christmas break. With the new Technology Centre being built next year, both the colourful playground and the eagles nest will have to be moved to create the space needed. A new playground area is being made near the bike storage area. All of this work is being funded by the Ministry of Education. At some point in the future, the blue container will also be moved - we are working on where this will be at the moment, most likely where the sandpit used to be on the Hilton Street side of Studio 5.

Container for sale
The red container that has been used out on our back field is no longer needed. We have sorted and rehoused what was in there and are planning to sell the container. If anyone is interested in purchasing it please contact the office. The dimensions are: L6m x W2.4m x H2.5m.

Athletics
Well done to all of the students who represented KBS at the Pegasus Zone Athletics. While I was not able to attend, as we were enrolling around 15 NE students for 2020 on that day, I understand our students did a great job with their effort and participation. Thank you to Rochelle Tainui for all the organisation put into the event and to staff and whānau for their support on the day.

Library
Next week (week 6) is the last week for borrowing books from the library. In week 7 the library will be open for browsing and returning books. We need all children's books returned by the end of week Friday 29th November.

Sunhats
A reminder that, as per our policy, school sunhats need to worn during the breaks and for outside activities by ALL students. Please make sure your child has a named sunhat.
