Long Haul in Space
Pushing New Frontiers
On Tuesday a small group of our Year 6, 7 and 8 learners attended a lunchtime discussion held by Dr Shannon Walker, a Nasa Astronaut and space physicist who has spent just short of a year (330 days) living in Earth orbit on the International Space Station.
She spoke about her time training for and living on the International Space Station. Did you know that a space suit can weight up to 150kg?! Luckily, usually they get worn in space where they don’t weigh a thing! It was really interesting and everyone learnt a lot. Dr Walker was amazing and was it was fascinating hearing about her unique experience, through both her stories and the audience questions. We left feeling inspired, but a little grossed out at how they go to the toilet in space.

What an amazing opportunity to encourage our learners and future astronauts!
