Matariki Storytelling with Darren Rewi
We are thrilled to welcome Kaumātua Darren Rewi into school next Tuesday morning to help us celebrate Matariki. He will be hosting a session for parents and another for learners.
Matua Darren has a special place in our school, having helped the establishment board, leadership team and our teachers extend and enrich our understanding of our place and the people who are part of it.
Matua Darren is a master of the craft of storytelling and can provide a great mātauranga māori learning opportunity through an hour of storytelling where he will regale your students with stories about Matariki in the night sky. Matua Darren will also use this time to transport us to the Pacific and recount how the sea voyaging Māori used the stars to navigate throughout the thousands of miles of the Pacific.
We welcome and encourage you to join us at 8:30am in the school staffroom for the parents session. The session will run for approximately 45 minutes.
