Art in Room 5

Raeleen Payton - August 2, 2023

Visual art is a way of expressing ourselves, and a way of showing a visual story. In Room 5, we have created a couple of pieces of art as part of our inquiry and to add some colour and happiness in our learning space.

The first artist we used as motivation was Susan Osborne. Osborne uses a mix of medias to create landscape scenes. We used a mix of paper types and textures, water colour paints and vivid markers to create a landscape of wetlands.

Our next art focus incorporated the koru shape as representations of our whanau in connection with our land. Again, we used a mixture of paper to create texture and variety in our finished piece. Each koru shape represents members of our whanau. The koru shape symbolises harmony, peace, new life, growth and strength.
