Shades, tints and tones; developing our colour palettes
Design Tech students deepen their knowledge of colour and how to create colour palettes.
As we continue to design our new uniform in Design Technology, students are excelling in their ability to identify and create colours. They are learning how to create them and sophisticated levels of tinting, shading and toning.
A tint is adding white, a shade is adding black and a tone has a different saturation.
Year 8 students can articulate primary and secondary colours, the difference between them and how they can be used to create other colours.
This in depth knowledge of colours means students can create their own palette to colour their uniform clothing.
I was impressed by how quickly the students picked up colour theory and were able to mix tricky colours using tints and shades.
Year 8 Design Technology are able to to identify fabrics, their properties and their uses and now also colours and their relationship to each other.
