Reporting, Effort and Attitude updates
At Te Oraka Shirley Intermediate we report using HERO with curriculum area updates and every 3 weeks we send out an effort and attitude update.
Academic comments and progress charts
Using HERO, we send a report comment related to reading, writing, mathematics or inquiry learning every 3-4 weeks as well as mid and end of year general comment.
At mid and end of year we report on your child's/ren's academic progress for reading, writing and maths using a graph that indicates where your child is in relation to curriculum expectations.
Food Technology and Design Technology send out comments at mid and end of year also with an achievement level.
It is important that your HERO notifications are set correctly to receive these updates.
Effort and Attitude updates
Every 3 weeks teachers will be sending whānau an "effort and attitude" update. This is to help with communication around your child's effort and attitude in class. We know that if a child is showing a high level of effort and has the right attitude towards learning they can achieve excellence (one of our FIRE values).
These scores range from 1 - 4. Attached is a definition of each level, this definition is also linked into the notification that gets sent to you. Please be mindful that your child/ren may not be displaying all of these definitions, these are a guideline. If there are continual low scores, staff will make contact with you to discuss how we can make positive change.
If you do not receive a notification please follow these steps:
Open HERO app
Click on the "three stripe" menu bar top left
Select your child using the drop down arrow
In here there will be many pages linked to your child's schooling. One of the options will be "effort and attitude". Click this to view your child's update scores.
