Enrolment Timeframes for Students Starting in 2026

  • 5 May 2025 – 2026 Enrolments Open

  • 24th June 2025 – Open Evening 6pm -7pm

  • 31 August 2025 – Enrolments Close

  • 5 September 2025 – Out of Zone Ballot Completed

  • Week of 8 September 2025 – Out of Zone Letters of Offer and Waitlist Letters sent

  • 20 September 2025 – Acceptance of Out of Zone offer must be confirmed by caregivers

  • Late November – Information about the start of the school year, including important dates, stationery, BYOD and uniforms will be emailed

Zone

Te Oraka Shirley Intermediate has an enrolment scheme and zone. A school zone does not restrict students living outside the zone from enrolling but there are only a limited number of places available for out of zone students.

Out of Zone enrolments for 2026 are welcome.

(There are no more Out of Zone spaces available for 2025).

The Board has determined the number of places available for Out of Zone Year 7 students for 2026, will be 30. The deadline for receipt of applications for out of zone places for 2026 is Sunday, 31st August 2025.

Out of Zone Ballot Information

If the number of out of zone applications exceeds the number of places available, students will be selected by ballot. If a ballot is required, it will be held on Friday, 5th September 2025. Parents or caregivers will be informed of the outcome of the ballot within three school days of the ballot being held.

In accordance with the Education and Training Act 2020, Out of Zone applications for enrolment will be processed in the following order of priority: 

  1. First priority must be given to students who have been accepted for enrolment in the Special Programme (Te Tāhu Rua Reo) run by the school and approved by the Secretary for Education.

  2. Second priority must be given to any applicant who is the sibling of a current student of the school.

  3. Third priority must be given to any student who is the sibling of a former student of the school.

  4. Fourth priority must be given to any applicant who is the child of a former student of the school. 

  5. Fifth priority must be given to any applicant who is a child of an employee of the school’s board or a child of a member of the school’s board. 

  6. Sixth priority must be given to all other applicants.
