A Welcome to 2024 with Rūma 6 at Te Oraka Shirley Intermediate School"

Niquita Lessing —

Rūma 6 welcomes the year 2024 with a renewed focus on identity, guided by Manaakitanga.

Welcome to the exciting journey of 2024 with Rūma 6! As we embark on another enriching academic year at Te Oraka Shirley Intermediate School, I am thrilled to share that this marks my third year with our fantastic students and supportive community.

Having recently embraced the experience of welcoming my first child, I am now back from maternity leave, eager and energized to reconnect with my Year 7 students from 2023 and extend a warm welcome to the incoming Year 7s for 2024.

This term, our focus in Rūma 6 revolves around the exploration of identity—discovering who we are and delving into the unique paths that have led us to Aotearoa. Embracing the cultural principle of 'Manaakitanga,' our journey will be guided by the spirit of hospitality and mutual respect, fostering connections and building a strong sense of community within our class.

In Week 2, our journey takes us on an exciting sailing trip, incorporating team-building activities designed to enhance camaraderie, allowing us to not only get to know one another better but also to develop new skills together.

Allow me to introduce the team that will be guiding our students through this academic adventure—myself, Niquita Lessing, Tracey Richmond, who will be teaching our class on Tuesdays, and Tom, our invaluable Learning Assistant. For your convenience, I have attached a timetable outlining the general structure of our class, including dedicated times for technology, science, and PE.

Here's to a year of growth, discovery, and shared accomplishments in Rūma 6!
